Dad with the grandkids waiting for the rest of the park to open on his 60th birthday.
Our main reason in going to Disneyland when we did was to be in the park on my dad's 60th birthday. I have already mentioned why Disneyland was special to him, especially on his birthday. Our first day in the park was his actual birthday. We got a button at Guest Services for him that said it was his birthday and he must have had at least 20 people, probably more, wish him Happy Birthday throughout the day.

For dinner that evening, we went to Downtown Disney to the Rainforest Cafe to celebrate. We had an extra-special treat by having my dad's older sisters meet us there. This was a big deal for many reasons. First was the distance. While one of his sisters lives in San Diego, the other lives in Hawaii and isn't able to get over to the mainland very often. The second was his sisters' birthdays are both in March - so in a sense we were celebrating all of their birthdays. His oldest sister will be 70 in March - we so had two big milestone birthdays to celebrate as well.

We had a fun dinner - it was the perfect place for the kids. My aunts brought in cake & candles so we could celebrate properly when dinner was done. It was a fun way to end that special first day in Disneyland. Happy Birthday Dad!
Dad lets the Buddy help blow out the candles. Below, the three Richards "kids".
