On the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, we went over to San Francisco early that morning to be at the new California Academy of Sciences when it opened. I had been a few times with the kids, but the Dad hadn't been yet and we have a membership. The first thing - and the best thing - that we did was go in the big living rain forest. There wasn't much to hold the Buddy's interest until we got to the top to see the butterflies. There are hundreds of beautiful butterflies and there are lots of planters up there filled with flowers & plants that attract the butterflies. The kids were mesmerized. It's rare to see the Buddy standing so still & quiet.
A big butterfly landed on the Dad's arm and then it flew off and landed on the Buddy's chest. He was so startled and not quite sure what to think. It didn't stay long before flying off again.
The Princess wanted so badly to hold a butterfly, as they regularly land on visitors, and she had seen other kids holding them. Soon, she had her wish. We found a butterfly that would stay on her finger and she was in heaven. She held it for several minutes and she was so careful with it. The Buddy even got a turn to hold it. The Princess shed many tears when it was time to leave her butterfly and exit the rain forest. It was such a magical time!

This looks like a wonderful butterfly exhibit. My kids love going to see the butterflies too. There is just something so entrancing about them.
